Doolittle Community Baseball League teams
are named in the memory of the professional
American Negro Leagues.
Black Yankees
The Black Yankees Negro League originated
in Harlem. Some of the great Yankees were
Clint Thomas, Fats Jenkins, DeWitt "Woody"
Smallwood, Barney Brown, "Crush" Holloway and
the powerful George "Mule" Suttles."
Kansas City Monarch
The longest running franchise in Negro
League history is the Monarchs from Kansas
City, Missouri. They were charter members of
the Negro National League in 1920.
Black Birmingham Barons
The Black Barons formed the cornerstone of
professional Negro baseball in the South for
more than 30 years. In 1943, 1944, and 1947
these strong squads captured the league title.
Memphis Red Sox
The franchise enjoyed its’ greatest success
in 1938, when they won the Negro American
League first half with a 21-4 record.
Atlanta Black Crackers
The Atlanta Black Crackers was a
professional baseball team which played in the
Negro League. The Crackers were founded in1919
and folded in 1952. During the 1920s, they
shared Ponce de leon Park with their Southern
League counterparts, the Atlanta Crackers.
